OVERVIEW OF THE MONTH

We begin January with Mars having just moved into Aries, bringing an upswing of energy and the willpower to move toward your goals. This Martian jet fuel will be with us for 6 weeks, so get ready to GO or get out of the way of folks who are activated by this transit. On top of that, all the major planets will be direct from January 6th - March 5th, offering us 2 months of forward momentum.

Mercury and Venus change signs in January, with speedy Mercury changing signs twice. Your love life lightens up while your mind may get serious before breaking out into brilliance toward the end of the month.

The Sun moves from Capricorn into Aquarius this month. While Uranus is the contemporary ruler of Aquarius, we would be remiss if we ignored the Water Bearer’s traditional ruler of Saturn. The New Moon eclipse is ruled by Saturn as well, so the focus is on building something to last the long arc of time.

NEW & FULL MOONS IN JANUARY

The New Moon in Capricorn on January 5th is a partial solar eclipse. The Sun, Moon, Mercury, Saturn and Pluto are all in Capricorn during this first lunation of 2019. Yes folks, that is officially a stellium… LOT of planets channeling that Capricorn/Saturn energy. This New Moon is all about consciously committing to your 2019 goals.

Since this is a south node eclipse, this New Moon invites you to apply laser like focus to any old patterns, habits, rules and structures that are no longer working for you. Rethink your game and examine your relationship to self-sabotage & power struggles. It’s time to recreate your rulebook, one that aligns with your integrity and inner authority.

The Leo Full Moon lights up the night skies on January 20th/21st. It’s a total lunar eclipse *and* a SuperMoon. Talk about Moon Mojo!

Leo activates the inner child in all of us, and you might find yourself more aware of your early childhood programming from parents & society around this Full Moon. This north node eclipse is inviting you to find nourishing ways to unite play and responsibilities.

The challenge is to find the courage to shine your best self and to be proud of your innate skills and talents without getting hung up about performance or comparison with others. Drama/trauma can get big on Leo Moons, and extra loud during a lunation like this one. Check yourself before you wreck yourself. Allow your heart to be your guidance system and you’ll be heading in the right direction.

The lunar eclipse will be visible in many parts of the world. Watch the eclipse if you have clear skies and feel called and make sure to honor your feelings if you decide not to watch it. Remember that the energy of a total lunar eclipse is INTENSE, so stay hydrated & grounded, and in the company of those you love to have the best possible experience if you choose to watch this cosmic show.

CELESTIAL MOVES (all dates PST)

1/1: SUN/SATURN CONJUNCTION IN CAPRICORN

Sun/Saturn connections can be a bit serious, and this year’s annual conjunction takes place in Saturn ruled Capricorn. This aspect invites you to take personal responsibility for the life you are living, bringing conscious awareness to the limited time we all have here on this amazing planet. Use it wisely.

1/4: MERCURY ENTERS CAPRICORN

The cosmic messenger moves from idealistic Sagittarius to practical Capricorn, reminding you that there is power in your word. Today is a great day to speak or write your intentions for the year. What are you building? What are the steps you need to take each day to create the life you want to live in? This aspect wants to know what conscious commitments you are making to your legacy in 2019.

1/6: URANUS STATIONS DIRECT

Uranus is the last of the major planets to be retrograde, and this station marks a 2 month period where all the planets are in forward motion. Uranus is moving through the final degrees of Aries before settling into Taurus for 7 years on March 6th. You might be considering how can you free yourself from the prison of your created identity while Uranus completes his Aries residence.

1/7: VENUS ENTERS SAGITTARIUS

After spending several months in and out of Scorpio, Venus is ready to emerge from the depths and play with fire. It’s time to keep it light & spicy in matters of the heart. Venus in Sagittarius wants the freedom to explore & expand, so give yourself the space to do so through February 3rd.

1/11: SUN/PLUTO CONJUNCTION IN CAPRICORN

Wherever you have Pluto, you have the opportunity for transformation. The Sun and Pluto make this aspect once each year, bringing to your conscious awareness any self-sabotage you’ve got lurking in your subconscious. Let this be an empowerment, not an invitation to get involved in power struggles. A good day to clear out clutter/garbage or dive into a puzzle that you’ve been trying to solve.

1/13: MERCURY/SATURN CONJUNCTION IN CAPRICORN

You might notice more than average negative thinking creeping in today or the days leading up to this aspect, or you might be having a hard time communicating with others. Mercury/Saturn can certainly activate melancholy or depression. If you can’t turn your thoughts around, use this aspect to get focused and work. It can help strengthen your critical thinking skills; paperwork and banking are easier than usual under this transit.

1/13: JUPITER IN SAGITTARIUS SQUARE NEPTUNE IN PISCES

This is the first of 3 squares between Jupiter and Neptune in 2019, and adds to the heaviness of the Mercury/Saturn conjunction happening today. You might feel a crisis of faith, as this aspect is going to point out anyplace you are overly idealistic in your life. Optimism is one thing, but Pollyanna’s rose technicolor glasses don’t serve anyone. You’ll have a chance to reckon with your own delusions and illusions twice more this year when these two planets square off again.

1/20: SUN ENTERS AQUARIUS

It’s time to get comfortable with marching to the beat of your own drum when the Sun moves into Aquarius. Though this sign can be a tad emotionally chilly, the ability to think outside the box is strong when the Sun is in Aquarius. Just remember that you are more than your thoughts. Fixed air can get stuck easily, make sure you don’t isolate or insulate during this transit.

1/22: VENUS/JUPITER CONJUNCTION IN SAGITTARIUS

Good vibes abound when Venus and Jupiter get together in the sky, especially in a fire sign like Sagittarius. Allow this aspect to lighten any heaviness you might be carrying after that intense eclipse. Optimism abounds, there’s opportunity just around the corner and the glass really is half full. Have fun with this one!

1/24: MERCURY ENTERS AQUARIUS

Free thinking is the name of the game as Mercury moves from pragmatic Capricorn to revolutionary Aquarius. It’s time to liberate your mind and attune to your genius. This is the last sign Mercury travels through before getting ready for it’s first retrograde of the year (March 5th - 26th) so take the opportunity to clarify your ideas during this transit.

1/29: SUN/MERCURY CONJUNCTION IN AQUARIUS

Cazimi! That is the sound of the conscious downloads that are coming your way when the Sun and Mercury hook up in Aquarius. This aspect is all about the conception and communication of original thoughts & ideas. Keep a journal handy today to keep track of any brilliance that wants to shine through.
