OVERVIEW OF THE MONTH
Got some things that you that need to get done this month?
Jump that to do list during the first half of the February to maximize the momentum of Mars in Aries.
There will be a downshift in energy when Mars moves into Taurus midmonth, right after an enlivening conjunction with Uranus. This might feel like a hard landing for some, others will appreciate the slowdown as an adjustment in pacing.
Things might get a bit blurry or out of focus after the 20th, when Mercury enters the shadow zone an upcoming retrograde (March 5th - 28th). More reason to get busy during the first half of February.
NEW & FULL MOONS IN FEBRUARY
These will be the first lunations of 2019 that are not eclipses. So in a sense, the New and Full Moon this month have a ‘business as usual’ vibe.
New Moon in Aquarius on February 4th has some creative tension that can lead to some breakthrough insights. These insights might come from the previous month or even all the way back to August 8, 2017 when the Lunar eclipse occurred in the same place in the zodiac (15° Aquarius).
Aquarius holds the vision of the collective in mind; expand your New Moon hopes, dreams & intentions to include the same blessings for others.
Full Moon in Virgo on February 19th is another SuperMoon. Virgo energy wants you to map, plan and organize your life. This may more difficult than usual due to some mental fogginess coming from a Mercury/Neptune conjunction in Pisces.
Pisces wants to dream, Virgo wants to make it real. Put them together and you have access to your unique version of practical magic.
CELESTIAL MOVES & NOTABLE ASPECTS
(all dates PST)
2/1: MARS IN ARIES SQUARE PLUTO IN CAPRICORN
February begins with a power struggle between Mars and Pluto. Mars wants what it wants, whereas Pluto wants to control Mars’ every movement. Squares require adjustments - try a new tactic to get past the wall of NO.
2/2: VENUS IN SAGITTARIUS TRINES URANUS IN ARIES
The heat gets turned up when the Goddess of Love tangos with Uranus. On the heels of the Mars/Pluto square, this fire trine highlights freedom and independence from the chains that try to bind.
2/3: VENUS ENTERS CAPRICORN
After a footloose month of partying with Jupiter, Venus gets down to business in Saturn’s house from now until March 1st. It’s time to get your affairs in order; Venus in Capricorn takes a hard look at responsibility in both relationships and spending patterns.
2/4: NEW MOON IN AQUARIUS
“Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds” is the song that pops into my mind when I think about this New Moon. Time to breakthrough your own calcified thought patterns and rise up with a new, clear vision of what is possible. Check out my MoonClub for a deeper dive into this New Moon.
2/10: MERCURY ENTERS PISCES
Mercury begins a 2 month drift through the Piscean sea. Mercury likes precision and logic, which means that Pisces is not Mercury’s happy place. Creative and spiritual practices become life rafts during this transit. You’re going to need to feel your way through for a little while. Surrender to the moment without stressing about the outcome.
2/12: MARS/URANUS CONJUNCTION IN ARIES
Mars has been in volatile territory all month long, culminating in this explosive conjunction with Uranus. Fire, meet gasoline. Hot heads and temper tantrums are to be expected, as well as public meltdowns and power moves. This aspect can also activate a fiery passion that quickly fizzles. This aspect is Mars’ ticket out of Aries, and he is going to ride it hard and fast.
2/14: MARS ENTERS TAURUS
Ka-thump. That’s the sound of Mars landing in Taurus after a 6 week joyride in Aries. It’s time to cool your jets and and steady your pace. Mars will be sauntering through Venus’ garden until the end of March.
2/18: CHIRON ENTERS ARIES
A new phase begins as Chiron steps firmly into Aries. He dipped his toes into the sign of the Ram from April 17th - September 25th, 2018, activating a new cycle of healing in the Aries part of your life. Wherever Aries is in your chart, you’ll be working on issues of worthiness around your identity. These ideas were most likely seeded in early childhood. Chiron in Aries will help to to mend any broken parts that may have been activated by the Uranus in Aries 8 year cycle, which completes next month. Chiron will be in Aries (with a brief visit into Taurus in 2026) until 2027.
2/18: VENUS/SATURN CONJUNCTION IN CAPRICORN
Venus is becoming a diamond this month during her trek up the Capricorn mountain. Her meeting with Saturn may throw up a road block in your life, or some rigidity in your heart and or pocketbook. Yes, reality bites sometimes, but taking radical responsibility for how you are living your life will free you from victimhood. Devote yourself to this discipline.
2/18: SUN ENTERS PISCES
We enter the dreamtime when the Sun takes up it’s annual residency in Pisces. Creative & spiritual activities are well supported this month, as are self-healing practices. Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac, where everything dissolves into formlessness and all one consciousness. Life is about to get more permeable; if you run on the sensitive side, it will be extra important for you to flex your energetic boundaries for the next 30 days.
2/18: MERCURY/NEPTUNE CONJUNCTION IN PISCES (1 OF 3)
This is a classic configuration for mental confusion and indecision. Mercury is connected to the logical, linear part of your brain. If you read the paragraph above this one, you’ll know that Pisces does not lead from this place. So, Mercury is at a disadvantage from the beginning. Meeting up with Neptune furthers the blur, forcing you to navigate by sonar for a few days.
Neptune is halfway through a 14 year freedive in Pisces, and this trinity of Mercury conjunctions over the next 6 weeks can help you see in the dark. Keeping a dream journal and/or engaging in active/lucid dreaming can help you gather the treasures from the depths of your psyche.
Mercury and Neptune will meet again on March 24th and April 2nd.
2/19: FULL MOON IN VIRGO
Are you chronically overbooked? Do you pack too many things into your day and onto your to-do list? You might feel the pressure to Marie Kondo your life with this Full Moon. Prioritize those things that feed your sense of the magical, and map your way from the inside out. Check out my MoonClub for a deeper dive into this Full Moon.
2/22: VENUS/PLUTO CONJUNCTION IN CAPRICORN
Wherever you have Pluto you have the possibility for power struggles. Add Venus and this could show up in your relationships, or in your relationship with finances. However, Pluto also offers the possibility of transformation and renewal, albeit the path through is often fraught with pressure.
The last time Venus met up with Pluto in Capricorn was on 1/9/18, right after a clarifying cazimi with the Sun. Alchemize the shadow aspects of the Capricorn area in your life by letting go of the need to be in control. Notice how far you’ve come (or not) and get ready to let go of anything that wants to keep you stuck in dominance/submission games.
2/22: MERCURY IN PISCES SQUARE JUPITER IN SAGITTARIUS
Compassion is a beautiful thing, but a bleeding heart helps no one. Neither does making promises that you know are unrealistic, just to make yourself feel better. This is a day to take stock of how you inflate and/or exaggerate with words and the true motivation that lies beneath this behavior.
2/25: VENUS/KETU CONJUNCTION IN CAPRICORN
Venus crossing over the the South Node is the final squeeze through the straight and narrow mountain path of Capricorn. It’s an opportunity to leave behind any excess baggage that is keeping you off your game. This is the last hurdle before Venus finds freedom in Aquarius on March 1st.
